Community Garden Fall Cleanup
It's time to close out the garden season with a hands-on fall cleanup at the Roosevelt Community Garden on Saturday, October 17th at 10AM. This is a wonderful opportunity for garden enthusiasts and community members alike to come together and prepare the garden for the colder months ahead. Join us in tidying up the beds, clearing away debris, and ensuring that the garden is well-prepared to rest and rejuvenate over the winter.
Whether you're an experienced gardener or a curious beginner, your participation is valuable and appreciated.

Getting Paid to Keep Forests Healthy
What Long Island Can Learn from the Family Forest Carbon Program
A national program backed by The Nature Conservancy is paying small landowners to manage their woodlands for the climate. Families and individuals own roughly 57% of New York's 18 million acres of forestland — more than the federal government, more than the state, more than the timber industry. Most of these landowners want to do right by their land, but they face rising property taxes, invasive species, storm damage, and limited access to professional forestry advice. When money gets tight, selling timber or selling the land outright often becomes the default.
The Family Forest Carbon Program offers an alternative. Find out how and why it matters for Long Island.
