Position: Museum Art Educator
Type: Part-time (25 hours/week)
Location: Huntington, NY (in-museum and at Long Island schools)
Pay: $20/hour
Hours: 9:30 AM – 2:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with occasional weekend hours
The Heckscher Museum of Art is hiring a part-time Museum Art Educator to develop and teach K-12 programs, both in the museum and at schools across Long Island. Reporting to the Director of Education, the educator works with the Education & Visitor Experience Department to create curriculum aligned with New York State Arts Standards.
Key responsibilities
Develop grade-appropriate curriculum and hands-on projects tied to current exhibitions
Lead Museum Discovery Programs on-site and off-site at schools
Schedule school groups and maintain program records
Support the annual “Long Island’s Best” initiative for high school students
Create Family Activity Guides and digital presentations
Order and prepare teaching materials
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in Art Education, Studio Art, Art History or a related field
Proficiency in Google Suite, MS Office and Canva
Strong organizational and communication skills
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle
Spanish/English bilingual skills a plus
