The John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden is part of the North Shore Land Alliance and one of Long Island's most quietly extraordinary places — a traditional Japanese garden tucked into the North Shore, designed to be experienced slowly and on foot. On July 11th, it becomes the setting for something even more special.

Join Karen De Mauro for a guided stroll through the garden, woven together with Japanese stories, inspiring anecdotes, and reflections on the relationship between landscape and language. The walk concludes with a group Haiku — a chance to distill what you've seen and felt into just a few words, in the tradition of one of Japan's oldest poetic forms.

Whether you come for the garden, the stories, or the poetry, this is the kind of afternoon that stays with you.
