Tucked down a quiet lane in Locust Valley, the John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden is one of Long Island's most peaceful places — and on September 5, it becomes the setting for a live performance of the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute. Grandmaster Daniel Nyohaku Soergel plays from the garden's Tea House from 11 AM to 2 PM, and the music drifts through the moss-covered paths, stone lanterns, and carefully shaped trees of this hidden seven-acre gem.

No registration is required — just stop by anytime during the performance window and wander at your own pace. The garden is open Saturdays 10 AM–2 PM and Sundays 1–5 PM through November 1, so you can combine the music with a longer visit if you'd like.
