Long Island's grasslands are some of its most overlooked ecosystems — and some of its most threatened. In this interactive workshop, the Vanderbilt Museum partners with Anthony Marinello of Dropseed Native Landscapes to teach participants how to convert a section of lawn into a thriving pocket prairie using native grasses and wildflowers.

You'll learn what Long Island's native grassland ecosystems look like, why they matter for pollinators and birds, and exactly how to create one in your own yard — from plant selection to installation. Practical, hands-on, and set on the beautiful grounds of the Vanderbilt Estate.

When: Sunday, June 28, 2026 | 9:00–11:00am
Where: Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY
Cost: $50/$45 Members
