Ahoy, families — this one's a keeper. The Long Island Museum is throwing open its doors for a completely free afternoon of pirate-and-mermaid-themed fun, and it's exactly the kind of summer day your crew will be talking about all week.

The highlight is a live interactive stage show by Timeless Tales Entertainment — a swashbuckling adventure where two rival pirate crews, a mermaid, and a whole lot of nautical nonsense come together in a hunt for buried treasure (with a little help from the audience). Beyond the show, there are games, crafts, and full access to explore LIM's galleries and grounds.

There's also a food drive in partnership with Agape Meals for Kids, a local nonprofit feeding food-insecure children on Long Island. Most needed items: mac and cheese, peanut butter and jelly, and canned pasta meals. A great chance to give while you go.
