The Long Island Conservation Alliance has launched a new Public Health & Environment Program — a research initiative exploring the direct connections between environmental conditions and community well-being across Long Island's 8 million residents.
Through a partnership with Stony Brook University's Program in Public Health, LICA will host two MPH practicum students during the upcoming academic year. Their research will focus on three critical areas: groundwater quality, pollinator decline, and climate-related health risks facing the region. It's the kind of work that makes the invisible links between the land beneath our feet and the health of our communities a little more visible — and a lot more actionable.
The partnership reflects a growing recognition that conservation outcomes and public health outcomes are inseparable. Clean water, healthy ecosystems, and thriving pollinator populations aren't just environmental goals — they're public health priorities. LICA plans to share findings as the research develops.
