Position: Guide Dog Program Manager

The Guide Dog Foundation is looking for an experienced guide dog instructor to lead its Training Department in Smithtown. This role is directly responsible for staffing, supervision, and training of personnel — maintaining a level of excellence in both dog training and client instruction that aligns with organizational standards and industry best practices.

As Program Manager, you'll oversee day-to-day training operations, ensure the care and welfare of all dogs under the department, and lead decisions concerning the final status of individual client teams during class. You'll also spearhead departmental preparation for IGDF accreditation, ensuring all training, consumer instruction, documentation, and safety practices consistently meet or exceed international standards.

Essential Requirements:
• Qualified guide dog instructor with a minimum of 3 years’ experience.
• Innovative leader with the ability to manage team ideas/projects through to final outcomes.   
• Understanding of resource management in creating and monitoring budgets and staffing.  
• Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner and works with others to solve complex issues.

Physical Demands:
• Withstand sustained, brisk walking in all types of weather for 5+ miles per day.
• Ability to restrain active dogs weighing up to 85 lbs.
• Ability to pick up a 70 to 85-lb. dog in an emergency.
• Ability to withstand repetitive bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.
