Have you ever spotted a coyote loping across a backyard at dusk and wondered how an animal that seems built for the Rockies ended up in Smithtown? You're not imagining it, and you're not the only one asking. Sweetbriar Nature Center is hosting an evening dedicated to Long Island's most talked-about — and most misunderstood — neighbor.

This isn't a fear-driven lecture. It's a chance to separate fact from whatever's been circulating at the dog park lately. You'll learn how coyotes made their way out to Long Island in the first place, what they're actually eating around here (hint: mostly small mammals and fruit, not pets), and how they really behave when they cross paths with people. Bring your questions — this is exactly the crowd that has them.

When: Thursday, July 16, 2026 · 7:00–8:00 PM
Where: Sweetbriar Nature Center, 62 Eckernkamp Drive, Smithtown, NY
Cost: Free
Note: RSVP requested, not required
