ReWild Long Island is proof that real change starts in your own backyard — literally. This volunteer-led nonprofit has grown into six regional chapters stretching from Cow Neck Peninsula on the North Shore all the way out to the South Fork, with communities in South Nassau, West Suffolk, Mid-Suffolk, and the North Fork in between. Each chapter is led by local volunteers who organize hands-on projects tailored to their neighborhoods.
The work is tangible and deeply local. Chapters run community native plant gardens, invasive species removal days, composting programs, and bioswale maintenance workdays. Through their Summer Program to Fight Hunger and Climate Change, high school interns grow organic vegetables that are donated to local food pantries — connecting food justice with environmental action.
Their seasonal native plant sales put Long Island-specific, pesticide-free plants directly into the hands of homeowners ready to make their yards pollinator-friendly.
Whether you want to get your hands in the soil at a community garden workday, help restore a shoreline habitat, learn sustainable landscaping at a workshop, or table at a local farmer's market to spread the word, there's a chapter near you with something happening. ReWild's approach is simple: nurture nature and grow communities — one neighborhood at a time.
