If the teen in your life cares about the environment, here's a way to turn that into something real. The Teen Conservation Ambassadors program at the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary in Oyster Bay connects young people ages 13 to 18 with hands-on conservation work right here on Long Island.
Ambassadors attend meetings and events, work alongside conservation professionals, and take on projects that protect and improve local habitat. Since 2019, teens in the program have planted native plants, installed fencing to protect nesting shorebirds, cleaned up beaches, built fishing line recycling bins, and even joined a Teen Lobby Day.
It's a chance to learn how conservation actually gets done, meet other teens who care about the same things, and leave a mark on the places that shelter Long Island's birds and wildlife.
