Every oyster you help raise is one more natural filter working to restore the Great South Bay. Save The Great South Bay's Community Oyster Garden program gives volunteers a hands-on way to contribute to one of Long Island's most important bay restoration efforts — no experience needed, just a willingness to get your hands wet.
Volunteers do NOT go in the water.

At the Oakdale/Snapper Inn location, volunteers help tend oyster cages, monitor growth, and maintain the garden as part of STGSB's ongoing effort to rebuild oyster reef habitat along the South Shore. Oysters filter up to 50 gallons of water per day — and every shift you put in adds up.

Help us maintain our Oyster Gardens by taking oyster filled milk crates out of the water, hosing them down, counting a selection of the baby oysters (spat on shell) & measuring them. Then, returning the crates to the water.
