Lace up your running shoes and bring your four-legged hero to Heckscher State Park for the Paws for Freedom 5K Run/Walk — a morning of movement, patriotism, and purpose on the South Shore. Hosted by the Knights of Columbus Sunrise Council 6607 in support of Paws of War, every stride you take helps fund life-changing service dog programs for veterans and first responders.

The morning kicks off with a Kids Fun Run at 8:45 AM, followed by the main 5K at 9:00 AM through the park's scenic autumn trails. Stick around afterward for food trucks, a best-dressed red-white-and-blue contest, the Field of Flags — where participants plant commemorative flags honoring loved ones — and large-scale chalk murals. Service dogs are welcome with leash and handler.
