Many native perennials won't sprout until they've been through a real winter. Seeds like these need a stretch of cold before they'll germinate. You can fake it in the refrigerator, but there's an easier, more natural way: let winter do the work.

In this free talk and demonstration from ReWild Long Island's South Fork chapter, you'll learn how to sow native seeds outdoors in early to midwinter. The session covers preparing and protecting your pots and using soil, sand and screening to set them up to germinate in spring. It's a great way to grow a whole garden's worth of natives for next to nothing.
