The John P. Humes Japanese Stroll Garden is home to dozens of bamboo species — one of the most visually striking and ecologically complex plant families. This guided tour explores the diversity of bamboo in northeastern landscapes and what it means for the garden and the ecosystem.
Led by Michael Veracka, Associate Professor Emeritus of Urban Horticulture and Design, SUNY Farmingdale, we will discuss strategies for controlling running bamboo and methods for selecting and growing proper varieties of clumping bamboo desirable as landscape plantings.
