What did the night sky mean to the people who lived here first? How did colonial sailors find their way by the stars? American Astronomy, a new show from the Vanderbilt Museum's Reichert Planetarium made for America's 250th anniversary, starts with those questions. It ends at the edge of what we're discovering right now.
Along the way you'll visit the great observatories, ride along on the Apollo Moon landings, and get a feel for gravitational waves and the newest space telescopes, all wrapped in immersive dome visuals and music. This week there's a bonus Veterans Day showing on Wednesday, November 11, when the museum and planetarium are open.
When: Saturday, November 7, Sunday, November 8 and Wednesday, November 11 (Veterans Day), 2026 · 3:00pm
Where: Reichert Planetarium, Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY 11721
Cost: $24
Note: The museum and planetarium are open on Veterans Day.
