The Caumsett Foundation invites you to Shared Surfaces, a participatory textile workshop led by Artist in Residence Jessica Penagos. This hands-on evening explores themes of memory, domestic textiles, and material histories — offering participants a chance to work directly with the same materials and processes that inform Penagos's residency work.

Participants will create small textile compositions using a curated selection of cotton, linen, and reclaimed textile fragments. Working within simple frameworks — embroidery hoops and small weaving structures — each person will stitch, layer, interlace, and secure materials using basic hand-sewing and weaving techniques. No experience necessary — the focus is on intuitive placement, touch, and the act of holding and connecting materials.

The evening begins with a brief introduction to Penagos's work and an overview of the materials. Participants then work independently in a relaxed, open studio environment with guidance and support. Light refreshments (wine and snacks) will be offered. All materials are provided.
