Good To Know

The Islandia-based nonprofit just received a national grant from the Alzheimer's Foundation of America to fund its 2Gether Program. If you haven't heard of Pal-O-Mine before, it's worth knowing about. They provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing for Long Island children and adults with physical, cognitive, emotional, and developmental challenges.

The 2Gether program brings people living with Alzheimer's and their caregivers onto a 13-acre farm to spend time with horses, work in a garden, make music, and just breathe. What makes it different is that caregivers and their loved ones participate side by side, not separately, not in shifts. Together. The horses, the outdoor setting, the hands-on activities, all of it designed to reduce anxiety and isolation, and to create moments of genuine connection that Alzheimer's can make feel impossible.

The horses spark smiles, awaken memories, and create moments that remind families that even in the face of Alzheimer's, there is still joy, dignity, and hope.

That's the kind of work that deserves more visibility than it usually gets. A Long Island nonprofit, doing this every day, on a farm in Islandia, just got recognized nationally for it.

Good work, Pal-O-Mine.
